This is my first attempt at making a blog and after looking at other blogs for inspiration I hope that I can successfully create a fun place for us to keep in touch!
In January of 2013 I received my official invitation to serve as a Peace Corps volunteer in Ecuador! I had been hoping for a Spanish speaking country since before I even started the application process so needless to say, this is pretty much how I felt about it:
I will be volunteering in Ecuador for a total of 27 months, 3 months training in the capital (Quito) and then 2 years at my site. We are placed in our sites based on our skill sets and how we develop during training so I will not know where I will be placed until after 3 months in the country already!
As most of you already know, I’m a pretty laidback person BUT this not knowing business is REALLY putting a cramp in my packing process! How are you supposed pack for a country that has rainforests, mountains AND beaches!? This is usually how I feel inside when I think about it:
However, I’m doing a pretty good job of NOT thinking about it, so it’s all good.
While I’m there I will be working in the Youth and Family Development Program. What I’m specifically doing will depend on where I’m placed and what the needs are for that area so I’ll keep you posted as I find out more. I’ll also post a description of my title in the About section as soon as I figure out how to do that…
I will be going to Ecuador with 33 other volunteers that will be working in various programs, I can’t wait to meet them in May, I’m sure they’re going to be awesome people!
As far as my Peace Corps requirements before I leave are concerned….
I finally received my Medical Clearance in March! I’m so happy that’s over with, the entire process made me want to do this:
But I mostly just did this:
I also completed my online Security and Safety Training which wasn’t difficult but it kinda made me want to do this:
And now I’m just waiting to hear back about my flight information for May 14th! I’m starting to get nervous but I’m sure it will all work out like it always does…
Follow me so you can see what’s happening in my part of the world… aka. the awesome part of the world!
